gen0cide Nov 16, 2003 06:03 PM

hey everyone

well, its seems Guy is going through the shedding process, and I need some help.

this is my first bp,and i'm not exactly sure on what to do. i was worried about him because hes been startled very easily latley, and hes been hiding, but today i noticed his eyes were foggy,so i'm guess its de to the shed.

if someone can give me any help on what to do to help him along with this,it'd be appreciated

This is something he has to do on its own. just let nature take it course...but they do get cranky when they are about to shed

Make sure his humidity is at 60% and don't bug him. He should do just fine and shed in a couple days. Good luck!

well....ive heard i'm supposed to spray the tank with water daily to raise humidity...do i spray him as well....and also, tomorrow his his feeding day...do i still feed him??

You can help by:
1) making sure the humidity is higher about 75-80%. You can achieve this by adding another water bowl or a larger water bowl or misting a couple times a day
2) not handling while in shed
3) not feeding
4) having something in the tank for the snake to rub against, like a rock or something rough.

During this time snakes are most vulnerable and do not need to be held or excited by food.

Sometimes the shed may take about 1 week to 10 days. Later in the shed the eyes will clear and the snake should shed within 24-36 hours.

He probably will not eat. My ghost ball is in shed right now and I mist his cage once or twice a day but I try not to disturb him too much while I'm doing it. You do not need to mist if the humidity is right on. My ghosty has a history of bad sheds- he's the only snake in my collection who does-- so I give him extra misting. You'll know better what your snake will need after he goes through the shed. If he has trouble you can mist or provide him with a wet hide spot. Many people take a rubbermaid or similar container, cut a hole in it and put wet sphagnum moss in it so the snake can go in there and get ready for a shed.

i was planning on doing the whole rubbermade thing, but i dont think id have enough room...i would have to replace one of his hide boxes...so for the sake of the shed...do i replace the cool side hide box,or the warm side hide box?

Try to do absolutely nothing.

Don't feed; don't handle; don't spray; don't change anything.

Then, in 7 to 10 days when he sheds, if it all comes off in one or two pieces, you know you've got the humidity thing pretty well nailed. If the shed adheres or comes off in a bunch of little pieces, then you'll know you have to make some modifications to his environment. You can read up or come back and ask for help in that case.
