Meal Worm Culture?

devious_froggy Nov 16, 2003 06:06 PM

would it be a possiblity to raise a culture of meal worms, and how would one go about doing this? i would only need a small number at a time as between me and some friends we have 3 leos, one anolie and a fat WTF to feed, also we would suppliment crickets ect... for viriety. good idea? has anybody done this before? I suppose we could sell (give) surplus to the LPS? and is it true that they can be stored in the fridge to slow their growth down? just an idea so if anybody wants to comment on their mealworm experences feel free.

Just get a few hundred or so place them in a container like a plastic shoe box or something. Substrate should be oatmeal, bran, cornmeal etc. ( I use oatmeal and cornmeal. They will start to curl up and morph once they do put them in seperate container until they turn to beetles which at this point they will breed and lay eggs. For spacifics you can do a search for breeding mealworms and you should get some sites that show you what to do.
