2 heat lamps, different ends...stressful?

Jawz Nov 16, 2003 10:02 PM

Ok i tore down my anole tank recently and have a spare heat lamp. I was thinkin of runnin one on one side for the day and another on the other rise with the infrared at night. Set them both on timer so when the day cycles ends the night bulb lights right up. Would have a basking spot at different ends for night and day stress the gecko out?

i would put them both on one end but one of them is really fat and cant.

You can use a red bulb...... I do not recomend using black lights...... You can also use those ceramic bulbs that do not give off any light...... I do not see how this will be stressfull on your leos.....

The only problem I see with this is that the gecko will not know which side is the warm side because when your day/night light goes off the heat will still stay there, so therefore, both sides will be warm and the gecko might not be able to thermoregulate properly. I hope you understand what I am trying to say, but the only way to find out if your idea works is to try it just keep a close eye on your gecko.

well id set the timers to be about 10 min apart so the tank cools down and then the light needs a couple mins to warm up aswell. I sorta see it as gradually shift if done nicely. I duno ive also read that jsut run a red bulb 24/7 and use normal daylight to regulate day/night cycle.

oh another question i had too, can i use normal incandescent house lights for day heat lights? instead of dishin out the prices at the pet store.

that should be fine. most people will agree that they dont need UVB lighting. the just need lights to simulate a daytime cycle so they know when to sleep and to keep their inner clock working right ya know.
