Just wanted to share a pic of my black desert kingsnake, Lilli. She's only a few months old, and already an expert escape artist.

Here she is...

Thanks for looking,
- Mark

What a cutie. Question.....This little guy looks just like my new Mexican Black Kingsnake. You are calling this a desert black Kingsnake. I couldn't find one by this name when I did a quick search. Is this the same as mine? They sure look just the same. I love mine 'cause he is so sweet and docile.

Common names can be confusing. Looks like a nigrita to me.

Are black mexican kingsnakes really calm as a whole? They're such GORGEOUS snakes, every single one I've seen is stunning!

Calm snakes they are NOT. In my experience they are quite energetic, cunning snakes. It's not that they are unfriendly, they are just opportunistic - so, if given a chance, they'll take it (i.e., escaping from the cage, running from your hands, hiding in your sock drawer!, etc.).

Indeed the "Mexican Black Kingsnake" and the "Desert Black Kingsnake" are one and the same. Some people call them Mexican, some call them Black. I guess it's just a matter of preference. They were introduced to me as Black Desert king's, so that just seems to have stuck for me.

Thanks,
- Mark
