Need some advise on young female just laid egg?

crazyloco Nov 16, 2003 10:23 PM

I'm little confused, I have two females (sisters), they're going to a year old next month on the 29th (Dec29th). Well, about 30 min ago I got a little surprise, most like 10-12 little surprise. One of the female, STARR laid approximately 10-12 eggs. My questions is, is it possible for a female to just laid eggs without mating with a male? I think I read on the forum where the female can lay after she gets "stimulated" after seeing a male in a separate tank, in the case the females cannot see the males. Do I need to incubate the eggs or not, I really dont think the eggs are fertile. One more thing, the females haven't been around any other beardies, males or females. Last question, could laying eggs this early endanger her health and future clutches. I would really appreciated any help and suggestions

Are you 100% positive that her sister that is housed with her is not mistakenly her brother? If you are and she has not been out with a male then the eggs would be infertile. If by any chance you mistaken her cage mate for a female, and it is in fact a male, or if she has been in contact with any dragons of the opposite sex then yes it's possible they are fertile. Females can lay infertile eggs no matter what. It does increase the chance if stimulated by a male presence, but it can happen without it.

Now if she did mate with the opposite sex, then yes she is a bit young in my opinion for that at 1 year old. At this age they can mate, but by many it's suggested to wait till she is fully grown. Waiting gives her a chance to use all her possible nutrients for her growth.
