Question about ruthven X mexicana hybrids

Tony D Nov 17, 2003 07:51 AM

I'm interested in getting into this project and but have a few questions.

First is how difficult is the initial cross? Do you have to go through the usual shenanagins to get them to breed or are they related enough that they pretty much do it on their own?

Second, I've noticed in working with "pure" theyeri that the milksnake phase is somewhat dominant. I'm concerned that this "dominance" would be greater with crosses. Is this the case?

The answer to these questions will help me deside whether I want to buy existing stock or initiate my own line. Thanks in advance.

Tony, I too have noticed the milksnake phase being a more "dominant" phase. I have seen what seems to be a different "course" by pursuing the black phase thayeri X ruthveni with (when acheived) the resulting "black albino" being a solid pink snake. Maybe if you STARTED with one of these pink guys you'd be better off. Who knows? I plan to cross an odd thayeri female with a ruthveni this spring--maybe.
