need help with an injured desert tortoise

jrquinn May 31, 2003 04:36 PM

I have come across an injured desert tortoise, and have cleaned and treated her wounds. She was hit by a car, but not badly, so I think she will make a full recovery. She seems to want to stay around my place, but I'm not sure what to feed her to get her weight and recovery back on the road. She doesn't seem interested in the usual greens (Romaine lettuce and dandilion greens) or even carrots and bell peppers. I'm quite fimiliar with snakes and lizards, but this one is new on me. Any advice to get her back on her way would be great!

Thanks,
Josh

Desert tortoises eat greens and flowers mostly. Try picking native edible plants for it. If the injuries are bad, you may want to have her checked by a good reptile vet and treated with antibiotics.

Best wishes
