Shells for sale

MikeST Nov 17, 2003 08:52 AM

Sorry if you guys get tired of me posting. This forum used to be such a cool place. Hoping to revive it once in a while and get people back here.

Anyway, I spend a lot of time on e-bay looking for weird stuff for my shop. I've noticed a disturbing trend in the last 8-12 months or so. There are increasing numbers of alligator snapping turtle shells for sale on a regular basis. These used to be few and far between.

I know they've always been out there, but I hate to see this happen. The bigger ones are going for a LOT of money. If people get more aware of this, its going to puch it up even more and people are going to start realizing these turtles are worth way more dead. I hate to see this. Now there are regularily shells on there that sell for over $150 . Last week, one huge one sold for over $600. Thats just a shell!
They are all coming out of Louisiana, and I know its legal there to trap, but the big thing has always been for the meat. If this catches on , that these things are worth money for other reasons, the big wild ones are going to be in trouble. Thats why they out-lawed ivory. In hopes people would start shooting elephants.
A year ago, you might see one shell every couple weeks. Now check it out. Go on e-bay and type in "snapping turtle" or "turtle shell"
I hate to see this happening.
