green poop?????

SittonJ Nov 17, 2003 09:36 AM

My hatchling kingsnake that hasn't eaten since I got her (a month) has green poop! I notice when I cleaned out the newspaper in her cage the other day. There were the white bits and then this bright green color - not too much brown but I suspect this is cause she hasn't been eating. Does anyone know what can cause this to be green? Is this a bad sign? I can take the sample to the vet, but there is so little of it and it is dried on the newspaper.

The green color comes from bile which is made in the liver and which aids in digestion. I guess the presence of feces usually masks this color. At any rate, you should notice this green color in the wastes of a snake which has not eaten for an extended period. As far as it being a bad sign – it always gets my attention. If it comes at the end of a long, NORMAL, fast, I don’t worry. Otherwise, I do.

I'm totally not sure because she has never eaten in my ownership before. The breeder mentioned that she was eating fine for him. Could this be a seasonal thing?
