Caging Advice

triniian Nov 17, 2003 10:50 AM

I am curious as to whether or not an open heat source would cause burns on an animal in an enclosure.

I am looking for a cage upgrade and upon review of the Cage FAQ from http://www.precisioncaging.com/faq.htm, the heat/light fixture is inside of the cage and is not protected from the animal.

Please advise me. Thanks.

An open heat source is not advisable as pictured in the URL you've provided. If a snake wraps around the bulb, can you spell Bar-B-Q. A snake could get burned from a light bulb.

In general, what do you guys think about keeping a ball python in a Sterilite 1990 - 116 Quart Ultra Storage Box?

Dimensions: 33 1/8"L x 20 1/4"W x 14 3/4"H

They're large and inexpensive.

That sounds like a good size. The dimensions are good. Some people would prefer the length to be 36" but 33" is good. By the way, how big is the snake. I would put an adult in that size box, but if its smaller, try a smaller box. Since these boxes are so inexpensive, you can always move up to a larger size later on.

Here's another URL, you might want to consider.

I have 2 22" Balls that will be seperated as they grow up.

Are these dimensions better for an adult ball:

VE 175 Dimensions: 52 7/8W' x 20 7/8L' x 14 1/16H'

Thanks for the help.

(33"-36" X 20" X (10"-12" is definitely large enough for an adult ball python. Unless you have an unusually large ball python, I wouldn't go much larger.
