Finally, the male Saharan Uro that I got from Doug Dix on Oct. 11 finally ate yesterday! My husband and I were so shocked. It took him 5 weeks to finally get settled in but he looks so much better. The female Saharan we got from Doug about 3 weeks ago is finally eating well too. I think she saw Houdini chowing down and decided to join him!
When I first got Houdini, I remember Doug saying that it would take a week to get him acclimated and if he didn't start eating in 2 weeks to contact him. I was so worried for Houdini, but it looks like for some uros it just takes them longer to acclimate. I think one thing that helped was handling them everyday and getting them used to us. We bathe them 2 - 3 times a week and try to hand feed them a pea or two each morning. I think this handling really helped. We didn't handle them much at all the first week because we didn't want to stress them out. They would run and hide from us, now they sit out and bask much more often.
