Boulder's getting a girlfriend!

georgio Nov 17, 2003 12:20 PM

I'm getting a 5 year old egyptian female next week. I am currently building an 8 foot cage for Boulder and am hoping after she settles down in a seperate quarantine cage they will be able to live together. I'll make sure to post pictures when she gets here. My girlfriend wants to name her Pebbles because it goes with Boulder's name but we'll see after I get to know her a little bit. Who knows...maybe there will be baby Boulder's next year.

Did you pick up this 5 yr old female from underground that was posted recently to the classifieds? I had my eyes on that large female too to go with my large male but was going to wait a few days and call to offer a lower price ..... ahhh well

Yeah, that's her. I called the morning after he posted the ad and he said he had already received about 10 emails and 7 phone calls for her so she would probably be going fast. I told him I couldn't make a decision so quickly (don't want an animal to be an impulse buy) and thought about it until the next day. I have been looking around ever since I bought Boulder and he showed such aggressive breeding characteristics, and this is the first adult female I've seen for sale. So I called back yesterday, he said he was surprised but she was still there and I bought her. Sorry it had to be one or the other...

I don't think I've seen any pictures of your Egyptian...do you have any pictures to post? How big is he? Talk to you later,

Peter

I do have some recent pics of my large male ..... I'll try to post them at some point in the not too distant future

I think my male is smaller than yours .. mine is around 14 inches and I've only had him a few weeks. I picked him up unexpectedly at a reptile show ..... I knew he was in captivity for a long time because his nails were extremely long and almost curled around in a full circle! He looked very well fed, alert with bright eyes and didn't mind handling at all. The vendor told me someone had him for a long time and due to a move had to get rid of him so he brought him in to his pet store. When the guy said he would sell him for $90 I just couldn't resist.

Although I have allot of other uros ... ornates, saharans and malis .... this egyptian has really quickly grown on me and is now my favorite animal .... this guy is fearless and always approaches me when I come up to his cage ... even if he is only hoping I'm going to give him a hibiscus flower which he LOVES.

I've always resisted getting egyptian uros because they are pretty drab colored but now I know that what the egyptians lack in color is more than made up for by their personalities and awesome presence.

Good luck Peter with your new female and I would certainly quarantine her for a few months at minimum before introducing her to your male.
Please let us know how you make out with the new female.

Hi Peter
good hearing from again. Congrads on the new of a g/f for the boudler boy. A suggestion....make them "meet" outside or in a "dwelling" area where boulder hasn't really seen or spent alot of time in. This is because you don't want him to be territorialy agressive. Gradually increse the time spent together and this will minimize any stress experianced by either animal. After mating my male with one of my females, I separated the male, as the female was begining to be aggresive....now, I can't put ANY uro in there with her without puffing, hissiing, violent body "wiggling" raised "tippy-toe" stance, bitting, etc. I'm sure boulder will get used to her as he now basks with your cat, when before he'd chase it, head-bobing! lol just be patient, and as observant as possible.....
PS Common man, we all need some pics/movies of boulder....
take care peace from Canada

Whereabouts are you in Canada? I'm in Brampton, Ontario. I'm currently looking for an adult female Mali for my mali uro, Ra. I'm having a difficult time finding adult uros. Do you have any suggestions as to where I might be able to find one in Ontario?

Thanks

Hmm...well maybe I should wait to put Boulder in the new cage until after the quarantine of the new girl and then put them in the cage for the first time together...that way it would be nobody's cage. I know there is a pretty good possibility they won't be able to live together and will deal with that when it comes up. I'm just hoping they will be able to seeing as the cage will be large enough.

i am so happy for you
if boulder manages to produce offspring, you'll have a waiting list a mile long for those little critters
