Crested Gecko info needed

JLJ2018 Nov 17, 2003 12:27 PM

Had lots of herps before, but never geckos. I was interested in cresteds and have been able to find some basic caresheets, but nothing really about breeding other than general information. How do the eggs need to be incubated, how long, what temp, etc.? Can anyone shed some light on this or point me to a page that has this on it? I'm thinking of trying these guys out as my first breeding project since they're supposedly easy to breed and have small clutches. Thought of breeding my bearded dragon, but don't know what I'd do with that many hatchlings running around. Thanks!

Well, we have a breeding pair of cresteds, they have about 2 eggs at a time. Yes, they are simple to breed. We incubate eggs at about 75-77 degrees F, kept in a small tub of moist vermiculite.

Thanks! By the way, I've kept mostly snakes that require low humidity, so I've always had them in aquariums with screen tops. I'm afraid in west Texas our humidity is way too low to house cresteds in this manner. I keep reading about ten gallon vivariums (which I assume is a different setup than that I'm familiar with)...any help on this and where to get them?

Hi, theres a Rhacodactylus forum on kingsnake, if you didnt already know.

Anyway, cresties dont need very high humidity. 50-80% is acceptable really. This can be accomplished by misting once or twice at night. Also, a 20g high tank is a minimum for housing IMO.

You should email mikecosia on that forum, and ask for a careguide. It has all the info you need to know basically.

Good luck,

M.N

Oops, didn't realize there's a whole forum dedicated to them...guess it pays to scroll down a bit doesn't it? Thanks!
