Question about UTH on acrylic?

Leo Lover Nov 17, 2003 02:23 PM

I have a question about using an UTH on an acrylic aquarium. If I put an UTH on it, would it melt? What if it was on a dimmer?

My dad has a 100 gallon acrylic aquarium and I he has some geckos, and I am posting the question for him.

All the warnings on the back of a UTH package says not to put it on wood or acrylic or something like that.

What I dont understand is that we all use heat tape on dimmers to heat our plastic shoe boxes and they haven't melted, so whats the difference? Should I use heat tape instead, or can I use a UTH also on a dimmer?

Any opinions or advice would be great!
Thanx!

I'm using a UTH on my critter keeper right now. The only problem i have had is with the bottom getting too hot with just a paper towel substrate. layer up the papertowels and you should be just fine
