I want to add a LITTLE heat... Ceramic heat element?

SaveFerris Nov 17, 2003 05:35 PM

Does the ceramic heating element (the kind that goes into a light bulb plug) does it get too hot?

I need to raise the basking spot about 10 degrees but i already have a mercury vapor bulb. Which would use less electricty/heat

another bulb or a ceramic heat element.

I really dont want to add another light in there its already pretty bright.

any advice?
thanks!

I have a mercury bulb about 4 inches away. She already climbs on the screen right under it. Its a zoomed powersun bulb that puts out lots more UV than heat so i dont think i should put it closer. But i dont know I could try it maybe.

I use a 60w ceramic heater for my geckos and it has fried two of the plants! Now granted, this is in a 20 gal terrarium, but I find it to get quite hot! If you use one just remember to put it into a ceramic socket as it will melt the typical plastic one.

Compared to full sun no indoor light will be too bright. As long as he's got a shady place to go to if he wants why not? Ceramics are OK, but lights will benefit the cham's general well being more.
