babysitter??

Hey there everyone. I have a strange situation that I need some help with. I am currently living on a military installation in lower Alabama. Turns out the two spectacled caimen I have are not as welcome as I was originally lead to believe they would be. One is a male about 4 ft long and the other is a female about 3 ft long. I have not been given an answer to whether or not I will be able to keep them on post or not, but I am trying to come up with some possible solutions. I will only be on this base for another 10 months or so, and I have had them for several years already. They are very much apart of my family. Does anyone know of anywhere that might take them for a year if I paid for food and shelter requirments? A kennel for crocs of some sort? If not would putting them in a rental enclosure off post and checking on them daily be feasible? Any ideas are very much appreciated. Thanks to all. Chris

First and formost check with the local herp society. Next check with any herp rescue groups. Lastly if the zoo is SMALL and kinda dull, they MAY consider fostering for that period of time. The last suggestion is by far a long shot but worth a try.

You wouldnt happen to be married with kids or have the option at off-base housing would you? If so thats another option.

Lastly thanks for your service!

Thanks for the quick response Cindy. It is much appreciated. I did check with the local herp groups and nobody is really able or qualified to take them in. The only indivual that was interested thought he could put them in his backyard pond. Just not quite what I was looking for. I also checked with a few rescues in the area, however they informed me they either didn't handle crocodiles of any sort, or they wanted to just find new homes for them completely. Moving off post is an option, but I just completed the enclosure they are in now. I don't really have the funds to build a new one. I do have children that live with me, but I am not married. Not sure why that was important? Anyways, thanks for the input. Take care and have a nice day. =)

From what I understand from my air force cousins is that married with kids or single parents with kids get extra assistance finding off base housing and more of a stipend from the military to find a place. I cant remember if you said which branch of the military you were in, but Im pretty sure that deal is across the board. If I could I would give ya a hand, but we are across the country. Once again thank you for your service to our country.

Give Colorado Gators a call. They frequently foster animals. They are in southern Colorado. Ask for Jay. 719-378-2612.
