great looking Mandarin breeders. Nice to hear and see the action is picking up for you guys. Good luck.
What substrate is that you're keeping them on? I'm trying different things with my Asians right now and always like hearing the advantages/disadvantages, and what people find works best for humidity, etc.
Thanks in advance,

we have been trying some new things with our rats this year, including a different type of setup using a deep soil. the orange stuff there is our decomposed granite soil that we use for our monitors. you can read about it in our FAQ at our site.
a very unexpected aspect of using the soil with the Mandarins is that we learned that the Mandarins burrow : )
we provide the man made burrows, but they go off on their own and make their own as well, which has really blown my mind.
once we observe and learn more, we will go into more detail about the setups, but looking at the coxi and mandarin setups in our pic galleries, you can figure out quite a bit of it : )

Looked through the section you have on your site about using local soils... it's funny, I never even thought of collecting soil from my area for snake substrate... I always assume it's somehow contaminated... Living on the island of montreal, we have some wierd pesticide rules, and with this whole "west nile virus" thing, they're spraying everywhere for mosquitoes. I have no idea if it's just a ridiculous paranoia or a rational fear though? I'm actually trying out hemlock mulch in a couple of cages now, I'll see how I like it I guess.
It was actually the burrow holes in the photo that made me ask the question. I had no idea that they did that... I guess that's what keeps my interest with the Asian Rats so much is the fact that there's still so much to learn about them all.
Thanks for the info,
Kris
