Those are some of the nicest looking gophers I've seen!
I caught each of them as neonates. The dark one is now 4'2" and almost 3 years old. This one is typical for the area. The light one is 3'7" and almost 2 years old. This one is a real screamer and not typical for the area.

Definitely a keeper. Is that a pair?
get that Native California Proagation Permit and produce those nice catenifers? Del Alspaw will work with you on it. I like volunteering him for things. LOL
But it would be fun and I might go for it. The two catenifers I have are both females, but I find dozens of them each year around here and could easily collect a nice male to breed with them. Would it be difficult to unload the babies?
By the way, I've not forgotten that you'd like a really large one if I come across something over six feet. When I was cruising in Livermore two weeks ago I ran into another herper who'd just seen one over five feet long. I went to the spot, but it was gone. Everything I've seen in the last three years has been no more than 4.5 feet.

for a six footer. Five plus feet is a big catenifer. Del's six footer is huge right now and should be dropping eggs soon hopefully. The color of those San Francisco locale catenifers you collect should sell pretty well. I'm sure Del and I would like a pair or trio of their offspring. Del's catenifer didn't produce last year so there's a list for some of the clutch already. Del sent a couple pairs off from the last clutch she dropped and then shipped the remainder of the clutch to some one that wanted the rest.
Here's another shot.
