snake eyes concern

mustang67ford Nov 17, 2003 07:36 PM

My ball had shed about a month ago and I checked the shed to see if the eye caps came off. It looked like they did but it was hard to tell. Now, since he shed, the eyes just don't look right. It's like the eye cap is still attached because the center of the eye has like an air bubble. kinda like it outside of the eye is ok, but half way to the center of the eye, it changes to a different pattern (looks like broken glass). The one eye has no dents or pits, but the other one sha like a small crease. Just to make sure this problem is not due to dehydration, I increased the humidity and used pete moss to make sure. The humidity has been up now for about a week with no change to the eyes. Is this retained eye caps?

next time your snake goes into shed make sure you increase the humidity. If it is a eye cap it is not going to hurt it to wait out the next shed!

I agree with Native, balls don't see all that well anyway and sight is not one of their most relied upon senses. It's best to wait until the next shed rather then trying to fix a problem like this yourself. You could cause more harm then good if you try.

It should be pretty easy to tell by looking at the shed if the eyecaps came off. If you are not positive they are still there, don't mess with them. They will come off with the next shed. Here is a pic of the head portion of a shed, where you can clearly tell that the eyecaps are attached to the shed.
