Some set up problems...anyone know how to solve them?

trinacliff Nov 17, 2003 07:52 PM

I've encountered two problems that I'd love input on how to fix.

1) The dripper that I'm using (homemade) is dripping pretty slow, but regular...I think it's the perfect amount of drip. However, the plant it's dripping into is already flooding (smaller plants in smaller cage) The little dish the plant is sitting in is already overflowing. What do you all do to avoid this? I'd imagine that my plant is also saying HELP!

2) Whenever I mist, no matter what I do, the mist goes in the cup where I'm trying to cup feed and it's enough to drown the crickets. Should I try to put drain holes in the bottom to allow water to drain but keep the crickets in? (pretty small crickets)

Sooooo...anyone have any suggestions for solutions to these problems?

Thanks!!!

Kristen

For your drip problem, I would either get a larger pot with a plant that drinks more water, or drip the water into a plant saucer on the bottom of the cage, then empty it out each day. Or drip into the plant one day and the saucer the next. I kinda do it both ways cause I have the same problem. Plus, when the water comes out the bottom of the plant it's usually yellow and makes the paper I use look disgusting. For your other problem, just drill a small hole in the bottom of the cup like you said. Tip the cup a little bit and drill in the lowest spot so the water runs right out.

Some tips. Don't use a saucer under that one plant so the water can drain onto something else in the cage bottom. Or, use a larger container that will hold the same volume as the dripper does. Set the plant pot up on pebbles so it can drain. As for drowning crix, just remove the cup or cover it while you spray!
