my bp hasn't gotten out of his hide in three weeks now. i take him out to feed him, then he goes back in and waits for another feeding day. is this normal behaviour ? is he depressed or something ? i kinda feel bad for him, but i don't know what to do.

ball pythons like a spot where they feel safe, hide areas are where balls will spend 80% of their time during the day. As long as he is coming out to eat you shoudn't have any problems.

Make sure you observe the snake for any obvious signs of illness. It seems over time that I've had to realize that my snake just really wants to be left alone. They have real strong instincts for self preservation so hiding in a secure place is in their best interests. They hunt opportunistically and usually at night which gives them more security. They tolerate our handling, some more so than others. Some ball pythons will explore their cage but from what I've seen that's usually at night. Just make sure your husbandry is on the mark and you'll probably have a happy camper.

He's probably coming out at night when you just don't see him.

I have had my ball python for two months now and I have seen him out maybe 10 times? Every morning he is in a different hide which leads me to believe that he switches sides when I'm sleeping. He's a sneaky little one. He eats very well and most of the time stays hidden in his hide with his head peeking out halfway.
