RE:Spotted Salamander Help

I posted about a spotted I found a week ago. BTW, he is doing well. He has picked off a cricket or two. The set up looks something like this

Guess that picture didn't work out. The lamp isn't directed towards the spotted's cage at all, but if you say room temp is fine I'll do that. BTW, it will be in the 50s high and 40s low for the week. Is it safe to release him or would I be better off waiting until May? I wasn't planning on him being a pet like my other collection. I just saw him on a cold day and heard it was supposed to freeze that night, so I took him in keep him from freezing. Plus it got him away from forklifts, people's feet, 18 wheelers, party animals, etc.

The heat lamp on my 75 gal has a 40 watt night light, so what light leaks out is small, similar to the night sky in the woods. the lamp itself is 2" from one side of the spotted's cage.

I'd say to release him then. I'd find a nice log, kind of make a little tunnel on the side of it, and watch him burrow under it. He'll be just fine, and he'll most likely dig himself under even more after a bit.

Do you mean this week or do you mean in May when you say "release him then"?
