feeding sick hamster?

kyla123 Nov 18, 2003 01:13 PM

THE feeder hamster that I got is now very sick and has diarrea. Is it possible for snakes to get sick from sick food

I think I would ditch the hamster. I'm not sure if it would make the snake sick or not. But ask yourself, would you eat spoiled meat. Don't think so. So why chance it. My ball pythons health is worth more than a $3.00 hamster.

I'd take it back to the petstore and tell them to treat their livestock for WetTail... cheapskates.

Brian: Are you sure it was a book? Are you sure it wasn't NOTHING?

It probably wouldn't hurt your snake. Many snakes are ambush predators and they often "catch" a lot of weakling/sick animals in the wild. Ball pythons are fairly stout slow snakes (except when striking) so they are definitely an ambush type. Because of this, they have evolved to tolerate some pretty nasty things. But you still have to ask yourself, is it worth it? If you bought the hamster, I'd bring it back. If it was given to you or if you raised it, I'd just put it down and get some quality food.
