Drako,
********Okay, I'm am currently incubating my first gecko eggs. I read that, on average, it's around 45 days until they hatch. But I also know that things run late sometimes. How long should I wait before I give up?*********
It is 45 days on average but that can vary greatly depending on many many factors. Some of the most important are temperature and the particular female who layed the egg. At least Ive heard this alot. Eggs can hatch as early as 30 days, but Ive heard of a couple going 70 days and still hatching fine. The only time I would give up is if the egg starts going bad like growing mold or discoloring. As long as its still white and hard, it should be fertile and still incubating.
*********I've also wondered if the eggs don't hatch after how ever long, are you supposed to open them yourself...?I don't remember what the technical term was....***********
From what Ive heard on here, most people do not open eggs if they dont hatch. If the baby wasnt strong enough to ever get out of the egg, it most likely wont be strong enough to survive. On the other hand, I have heard mixed results when the baby starts to break out of the egg on its own, but never fully comes out and just stays in there. Some people have said after a while they got it out and it was weak, but survived. Some people say the gecko just never really got better. Anyone got any personal experiences on this subject?
********And lastly. How long after breeding do females lay eggs? Just a curiousity question of mine. hehe.
Thanks

This is also a highly variable characteristic in leopard geckos. A female can lay eggs within a month after breeding if she wants to. But female leos can also store the sperm for up to a year from what Ive read, so if breeding conditions werent right, she might wait around to start making the eggs. Once she starts laying clutches, they can come out as often as every couple weeks, but from my experiences its usually every 3-4 weeks. My friend has a female that produced a 2nd clutch 10 days after the first one though, some females are "super productive".
I know all about waiting though. How many days is your egg(s) at? My last one is at 44 days right now! (its eggmate went bad at around 30 days
) Good luck and be patient! Itll be worth it!!
