Max has died.............

phelpcd1 Nov 18, 2003 06:44 PM

For those of you who remember me here from the past couple of years, Max has finally died. I'm so shocked he made it for 2 years. You just wouldn't believe that in all this time he hasn't grown an inch! This entire summer he pretty much refused to eat anything, his eyes swelled shut and since he was so tiny, there wasn't anything I could do about it. I put him and Mira in the indoor "hibernation" cage just recently hoping they would both go to sleep. Mira did, but Max just sat there crawling around blind and acting like a stooge - he was totally cute! This morning when I went to mist the cage, I found Max dead. Me and hubby put him in a tiny jewelry box and buried him in the rose garden. I plan on making a tiny cross so I can remember where we placed him. Anyway........just a very sad story for a tiny little fella that never had a chance. Charla

I'm so sorry, Charla. Poor little guy - he lived a lot longer with your excellent care than he would have anywhere else. Sometimes they just go despite our best efforts. I have a couple of "favorite rock" markers in my backyard, too.

Sounds like he was a sweet little guy. I'm sorry to hear that he didn't make it.

I'm so sorry Charla! Good to hear from you though, was wondering where you were. Stay in touch!

Charla, I am so sorry to hear of Max death. Thank you for all your efforts to give him a good life. Thanks for sending us the picture of the sweetie! Best to you.

You have to realize that only a fraction of any clutch is meant to make it to adulthood. Given those odds you did good. Just think maybe it was not meant to be. I've been there more than once and it still hurts when they die after the first year or 2 but then again... mabe it was not meant to be.

that is very sad. i'm sorry ( did you bring him to the vet? ::hes in a better place now anyhow:: i've actually only had one pet die yet ::knocks on wood:: i had a 17 year old kissing gourami (fish) that i just lost last summer. i thought that one of my hermit crabs had died, so i sorrowfully buried it, tears and all... and the next day i found the same amount of crabs in the cage... (i had buried the one's shed skin)

Sorry to hear about Max passing, he looked like a very sweet little ornate.

P.S. I also have an adult ornate box turtle that loves chasing my feet.
