nope

I used my super animal hypnotizing powers :D

actually:

It IS Nov and he was rather enjoying his sunbeam.
We have quiet a few of them behind the shop (along with 5 other species of lizard) and they are pretty used to us.

As for camera I have a nikon coolpix 4300. I'm not very skilled with it and there's some stuff about it I don't like about it, but its pretty well all automatic, takes beautiful pics if you can hold still and focus and it fits beautifully in my shirt pocket.

it works better than my old sony mavica which made getting up close kinda dangerous

Awesome, whether the pics were taken with automatic settings or not, they're great The poor anole does look pretty chilly, though.

Anyhow, what kind of snake is that in the photo? I'm not really familiar with many kinds (just common pet trade varieties and locals), but since I live in marshy-Miami anything that's brown with a triangular head is most likely a Water Moccasin--and they scare me! :-D

I apologize for taking so long to reply (if anyone is still reading this thread)

that's a western cotton mouth (A. p. leucistoma)
I believe you are in the area of the florida cottonmouth (A. p. conati) Its usually alot better colored than my local species. Although the baby westerns here can be amazing

but this is the anole forum, so I'll knock off that stuff

I am partial to snakes, but I truely enjoy my local lizard species and of all of them I've dealt with in the wild the anoles are definately the best. I will keep an eye out next spring/summer for some more good photo ops.

I thought it was a Water Moccasin, but, I don't really know anything about what non-local pit vipers look like, so I didn't feel confident in thinking that's necessarily what it was (heck, I didn't even know there were Water Moccasins in Texas). The head shape is familiar, but, as you mentioned, the coloring and patterns are different here.

Anyway, I don't think pictures of any herps will be minded here, in moderation. If you have a site with your pictures, could you please provide a link? I would love to check out your pictures... they look great.

BTW, what part of Eastern Texas are you in? Just curious
