Rough Green Snake feeding frequency

fenrisswolf Nov 18, 2003 07:35 PM

Just a quick question:

I've recently obtained a rough green, and while I've found some hints online as to its' proper care and upkeep, (and I will try to follow them, as best possible.)
I have yet to see any kind of guidelines as to feeding frequency.

I've had "Crowley" for about a week, and currently it looks as though he(/she?) is getting ready to molt.
This should decrease it's appetite, right?
None the less, Crowley is still quite active, climbing over and around most of the plants, branches, and even the tubing of the home-made dripper system used to water the terrarium plants.

For the moment, I've fed my snake "medium" crickets by tossing two in at a time, waiting till they dissapear, and then tossing in a couple more. So far, it seems to have eaten three, as the fourth one is still walking around in the terrarium, and although Crowley seems to be interested when it wanders near, the cricket is is still there as of this moment, so I will probably just keep any "left-over" crickets as future feeding material after the expected molt.

My apartment's other inhabitants:

0.0.1 Rough Green Snake: "Crowley"
0.0.1 House Gecko: "Browney"
0.1.0 Emperor Scorpion: "Doom of Fern Hollow"
2.2.0 Roomates: "Joe, Mason, Ariella & Jen"

If it's going to shed, it doesn't exactly mean that it won't eat. My baby male Ringneck is getting ready to shed and it ate a worm yesterday. Make sure it has food, you cannot overfeed a snake. Just have food available at all times, trust me it's easier.

Seems like a workable idea. I'll just keep up the current M.O. then.
That is, I'll add a couple of crickets they day after the last one "dissapears."

My snake just finished shedding, by the way. (In one long continous piece, except for the very tip of the tail! )
