Remember that leopard geckos like to hide in tight fitting spaces! I would rather look in the small narrow areas than right out in the open. The leo could have traveled down the stairs but it most likely won't due to the fact of how many there are and how long it would take it. As soon as you noticed that it went missing I would have fenced off the rooms and searched them one by one. Just make sure to take into account every crack under a door or other area that they could have gotten through because they can squeeze in pretty tight spots. Some leopard geckos go into spots that they can't even get themselves out of! Goodluck with finding him!

I think it's harder to find a leo when you're actually moving stuff around trying to find it. All the noise will make him hide even more.

What you can try doing is buy a bunch of large crickets (since they're the loudest), put them into some clear plastic containers, but put a lot into each container so the movement can be spotted easily from far away. Then place the containers into different areas of the house. By each container, put a hide but cover it up a little more so it looks more welcoming. Then just check each hide several times a day.

First breathe....Now calm down, he will turn up. I had a hatchling get out and I found him three weeks later....fat and very unhappy to see me. I walked in the door and he scurried across the floor behind me.Guess he thought I wouldn't see him. Now keep in mind that I tore the house apart looking for him....and yes it was pretty cold during one of the weeks he was loose.

We also had a baby beardie get out of the incubator (weird) and run around the house for three days. We found him when he was crawling up the curtain. AT NIGHT!

We haven't had exactly this experience (we knew where she was but she wouldn't come out for many hours)... but other good suggestions that have been on this forum:
Put out heat sources at night with a hide on or near them.
Put hides near the warmer places around the area she may be lost.
Sprinkle calcium powder around and look for footprints, particulary near the food sources that xelda suggested in her post.

And most importantly, have hope - there have been lots of happy "reunion" stories on this forum about lost geckos getting found, often at really unexpected times and by someone who wasn't really doing the looking!
