2 days ago a baby texas tortoise crawled up on my porch, i noticed he was runing into things with no real direction, upon closer inspection i noticed his eyes were closed, i watched him for a long time but they would not open, i gave him some cut up cactus & veggies as well as water but his eyes are still stuck closed. Im going to boot him out as soon as it warms up i hope he makes it but i doubt he will. Has anyone ever heard of a blind tortoise before or know what i can do for him???????????

Try to wash his eyes off with some water. And if possible take him to a vet or rehibilatater we need as many of those Texas Torts around as possible. Where are you located in texas? We are in san antonio. But please get him help if hes blind he wont make it in the wild, and his eye may just need some care or meds. scott feel free to email me if needed we know several rehibilataers around the area, and a great vet that does wild life also. scott

this is the eighth one I found at my house this year, I am between Jourdanton & Charlotte, for the last few years I have been seeing more & more tortoise's & this is the second baby I have found this year. I help the tortoise's out by trying to keep the fire ants down to a minimal amount. Ill try to wash his eyes but I don't think it will work, since they are protected i will give him a couple of more days & he will be on his own & mother nature will have to take its course.

He's worse off than I thought, I looked closer & one eye is stuck closed & the other is completely missing the eye. The eye socket is recessed like there is no eye in the socket.

Tough way to go, but at least you statement about seeing decent numbers of them cheered me up. Thanks for trying, they need all the help they can get.
