How long do iguanas grow?

LinsZoo Nov 18, 2003 10:20 PM

Not length... But to what age? We were guessing Marley to be maybe 6. The last owner had him 3 years and said he never grew. We have had Marley 5 ˝ months and I have him down now as 33". When I first got him I measured 31". Is this possible? I measured twice each time. Perhaps he is just getting straighter? LOL~ I don't know what to think!! Any ideas? A third of an inch a month is a bit scary if he is growning, I was enjoying his compact size.

I would think that a stunted iguana who was not fed or given proper UVB will certainly "stretch" out some no matter what age when suddenly properly cared for...He probably wont get huge, but will certainly get a little longer, and maybe a little fuller....good luck...he is really pretty...Lyn

From what I understand, growth occurs until death, just at a slower and slower rate. I got my iguana when she was 6, and have had her for a year and a half, and she's grown several inches since then.

Don't worry, I doubt he'll get massive, just a healthier size for his age

Wendys right, most all reptiles will continue to grow through out their life except at a slower rate as they get older. Providing they get fed well. Bill
