Toe nail gone

dunlax072 Nov 19, 2003 12:42 AM

My jax is missing a toe nail today. Somehow he must have gotten snagged on something, had had it pulled out. I've been putting antibiotic on it, is there anything else i need to do in order to prevent infection? I feel so bad, he is acting like it doesn't hurt, it isn't slowing him down at all, but i just want to prevent this from getting infected. Should I soak it? I don't think he would like that much, but if I need to I'll do it. I've also added much more foliage so hopefully he'll stay off the screen in the future. Thanks for your help.

Scott

Scott,

Keep a close eye on that toe....
Jacksons have a habit of getting swollen feet over such matters. If it starts to swell, do the hot water soaks - twice a day. Clean the foot with hydrogen peroxide or betadine, then dry the area and apply triple antibiotic ointment.

If you take good care now, there is a chance it will heal without needing oral meds for infection.

Good luck with him...
Love those JAX..!
