Can I keep a nivea and annulifera together?

scylla Nov 19, 2003 05:37 AM

hi. I live in Cape Town, South Africa, and have a temporary crisis on my hands.
I am involved in catch-and-release, and as it is early summer here, I am being called out on at 3-5 times a day.
I have temporarily run out of space - can i keep a juvie naja nivea with a juvie naja annulifera for a short period?
Thanks for your help.

Depends on what you mean by "short", but by and large, I wouldn't advise it. Cobras have strong snake-eating tendencies, so I suspect you would have a fair chance of ending up with either one very fat cobra or two dead cobras.

Thanks. By short I mean about 3-5 days; I am not too happy about keeping them together, as I am aware that both the Cape and the Snouted have strong snake-eating tendencies.
I was wondering if anyone had tried this before, for a relatively short period of time, with any success.
But thanks Wolfgang, you have affirmed my doubts.

How about fashioning a divider say out of wood and seperating the enclosure, so they are a bit cramped for a period, will not hurt them......just a thought
