Something weird going on at the Ball Python forum...

Thomas S. Nov 19, 2003 10:31 AM

Check it out. Seems like everyone is in on it except me. Or the page has been hacked or something. Really weird.

I would be extremely irritated at that if I was a ball python forum user... I guess I am glad I don't use that forum.

You never experience life until you have kids..then you realize what you should have done rather then what you did do

Got Bats?

Ok, what is the story?

because the moderator deleted all the posts , but a few people were not happy with one of the other forum goers and voiced their opinions. It wasn't very pretty , and probably violated the TOS. That is understandable , the moderator posted a pretty rude message to all the forum goers and proceeded to delete any thread that challenged him/her....

I guess that forum is getting tired of the censorship..they are protesting , without users the forum is DEAD!

As I posted in the Ball forum just now......they all need to get a life.

Still it's somewhat rediculous.

Ridiculous? Do think the thousands of Americans who gave their lives so YOU could have first amendment rights was ridiculous? I realize you may think this ball forum thing is silly and not important but every time a little bite is taken from your rights the less we all have. How long before you have none? If we can't voice our believes we are as good as DEAD.
Free speech is free speech...on the street corner, the newspaper, the radio, the TV or the internet.
Here at kingsnake I can't even type the word [bleep] (that's [bleep]) because of censorship. See my point?

privately held website. If the moderator (owner) wants to delete a post then they can. The website is their's and they can do whatever they want with it.
Now, if this was a public (government-owned) website then that would be a different story.

i think the main reason phwreny got mad in the first place is becuase someone pointed out he violated his own TOS he wrote him, saying no profane lingo or anything....but in the warning message, he used some cuss words. Talk about proving a point? he doesnt even follow his own rules. Go to Ralph Davis' Site. he is an awesome man to know (gonna buy some pastels from him when i get the cash). Phwerny, get some midol. and stop throwing temper tantrums that you are not "controlling" the reptile world.

it is open to the public...therefore it is bound by the laws of this country. people have a right to protest if they feel they are being treated unfairly.

has no applicability whatsoever, as kingsnake.com is not a government entity.

That being said, while the First Ammendment guarantees freedom of speech (with minimal infringment by the government), it does not guarantee an audience.

DR.EVIL Nov 19, 2003 08:00 PM

the whole thing wasn't started because of a first ammendment issue.Thank you.

Yes, they have a right to do with this site anything they want....and they are free to destroy themselves and drive away their customer base in the process. And that is just what they are doing.
KS shot themselves in the foot. They have alienated the biggest and best known breeders in U.S. They have drove away and banned their members. They have insulted their customers.
There ARE other places to go....and that's were I and many MANY others will be.

sparke303 Nov 20, 2003 12:59 AM

That is not ENTIRELY true. As does any other business in the US, they are not allowed to discriminate based on race, religion, etc. etc. etc...

Additionally, there are some provisions in the Sherman anti-trust act that could hold KS liable. I doubt it would come to that, nor do I know whether KS owns enough "market share" to deem it valid, but there could be some correlation drawn between some of the things KS does and those things that led MicroSoft to their troubles years ago. Not saying it will, or that I know who was right or what the whole deal was, just that "private" does not necessarily mean "unregulated".
