melanurus intergrade with any other subs in the wild?

Trust May 31, 2003 09:48 PM

I have a female blacktail that was captive bred. She's now a yearling and she still seems pretty uniform in color - her tail is no darker than the rest of her. I had a male that was a clutchmate of hers, and he was pretty normal blacktail looking.

Is this normal? Or is it within their natural color morphology? Or is it possible her lineage includes genes from other subs (I'm not sure what subs, other than unicolor, their range overlaps with)?

Most of the bt's that come into the States are either pure melanurus or melanurus x unicolor (a very common integrade)

....just because they are coming out of central America (You can't bring anything in from Mexico)

but in Mexico...melanurus overlaps and integrades with erebennus, rubidus...and possibly even orizibensis
