Balls vs Others

Hey

I only have experience with Ball pythons, as they are the most common snake available and also fairly easy to maintain. I am interested in some other pythons/boas perhaps but am not sure where to start. I know I don't want something to grow larger than 12ft and I know I don't want arboreals. Can anyone suggest some more exotic stock that they have had wonderful success with? I also own a Boa(BCI).

I'm not interested in breeding ease or anything along those, nor trying to make any profits what-so-ever. Just looking for a nice unique pet snake.

Thanks

P.S. I am very disheartened to learn of the ball python forum loss. Perhaps there is a better way to solve these issues in the future.

Blood Forum, or maybe the Carpet python forum. After balls, those are the two most frequently kept intermediate-size range snakes. Lots of plusses for both of them. Me personally, I prefer the bloods, but you'll find tons of supporters of the carpets. Depending on which short-tails/bloods, you are looking at about 4 to 8(huge...rare...) feet of heft, personality, and very slow movement.
If you have the cash to throw around, there are some Bredli's and some Angolans for sale right now, and both of those would make for very interesting, unique, "pets." (Though people would be clamoring for you to breed them.) I know its an arboreal, but I also see some Tanimbar Scrubs, one of the coolest pythons out there in my opinion.

Thanks for the opinion. I will look into it. I have no dislike to arboreals, just rumoured that they are much more agressive and less personable/manageable. I enjoy handling my snake and any that had to stay behind plastic/glass is not ideal for me.

Thanks again!
