Can I house 2 burms togethor?

cito Nov 19, 2003 07:44 PM

I read a post ealier on that said that you should never house two burms togethor unless breeding. I was wondering if the same applies for juveniles. Right now I have a 2.5 albino burmese that im pretty sure is a male, im about to get a 2-3 female burmese from Bob Clark. I was wondering if it was possible for me to house these juveniles togethor, or if the same rules apply, and just because they are smaller they will still fight eachother.

I would really discourage keeping two snakes together especially a new one coming in to your collection. You will want to quarentine her for a while and observe her for any signs of disease or parasites. I have received parasites from big breeders before so just becuase they are huge names doesn't mean their snakes won't come to you with RI's or mites. You want to isolate the new snake until you can be certain that it doesn't have any problems. Also housing multiple snakes in the same cage creates eating problems. The snakes have to be removed to feed and then handled to be returned to there cage. Some burms do not take well at all to handling after eating and will regurgitate their food. Also I have had on two occassions had one snake attack the other snake (I use to house 3 burms together) becuase the scent of the rat was still on the other snake and it mistook it for food. I honastly would not recommend housing even juvenile snakes together. Hope my rambling helped. Todd
