Help! Newts getting skinny

insideoutsider13 Nov 19, 2003 08:11 PM

I have three firebelly newts in a ten gallon aquarium. I have fake plants sticking out of the water so they can climb out and such. One of my newts keep getting this odd goo on it that looks like poop but I am not quite sure what it is. Another one of my newts is nice and fat and healthy (the biggest) and then the last one is quite skinny. I drop in blackworms and they scavenge amongst the gravel and I always see them hunting for food. They look very malnurished yet I am feeding them enough blackworms and they all seem to be finding them. Any ideas on what I can do about the feeding? The newts look too small for peices of earthworms to be fed.

I'd take the skinny one out of the tank and try feeding it blackworms in a water bowl with no gravel. I'd also be careful of the water conditions in the 10 gallon. Live blackworms will build up in the gravel and can put out alot of waste.
