Hi, I have a 65g long tank for my beardie Dino. I also have a PowerSun UVA/UVB bulb, 100w and a strip light for the other side of the tank. Anyways, I had one of those cheap LCD thermometers set up all over the tank, including one in the basking area. Well, I went out tonight and bought a digital thermometer (not so expensive one), that has a probe so you can measure the temp where you want and it also measures room temp. Anyways, the temps w/the lcd monitor were always right on target. 100-105 in the basking spot, 75-80 in the cool zone. The digital is reading 90 in the basking spot (that is w/a PowerSun and a dome light w/100watt bulb) The PowerSun alone was giving me a basking temp of 84 degrees!! Now I took another indoor/outdoor thermometer that we already had, just to test it. It gave me even lower temps. Do I need to move up to 160watt PowerSun? I think Dino prefers his cage cooler sometimes, I have seen him gape from time to time while basking on a high branch, which stops when he moves down. Dino is a juvie 14 1/2" long)Are these thermometers known to screw up? It was giving my room temp as 80, which I know it is not, we do not keep our heat that high in the house! I am confused. Dino has been going to bed early, so maybe there is something wrong with the temps?
