Over feeding

svinarsk Nov 19, 2003 09:17 PM

Is it possible to over feed an iguana? I feed mine once a day. He is about 6 months old and he is eating a huge bowl of veggies a day. His diet consists of Mustard Greens, Kale, Salad of Savoy, Celery, Carrots, broccoli, asparagus, and snow peas. He gets a slice of pineapple or pear as a treat once a week.

Will my ig be a fat boy?

Hi,

If you're feeling your iguana a variety of leafy greens and vegetables, with occasional fruit as a treat as you mentioned in your post, then there is no way he can get too fat! You really should let your iguana eat as much as he wants -- and if you're doing things right, they do eat a phenomenal amount of food, believe me!!

Are you also adding a source of protein/fiber to his diet, such as rabbit pellets?

No. You cannot overfeed an iguana. They will eat all they need, and then stop. We feed Iggi twice a day. Your ig will grow up to be a big boy (or girl). Our Iggi is now 52 inches long, and 8.2 pounds.
