1 male and 1 female okay, should there be more?

Zim Nov 19, 2003 10:43 PM

I got the gecko from the girl, and she's adorable...a little skittish, but that's to be expected. I am already thinking about getting her a mate, but my question is whether one male and one female would be alright, or if I should have more than one female in there. Will the male harass her too much, or will they be able to coexist, and hopefully even breed? She came with a 20 long, so I assume there is more than enough room for the both of them, or even a third. Thanks for any and all help.

Chances are that until breeding season the male and female will be fine. After that ...

A 20L is a good size for a trio, and that might be fine. Depending on the individual leopard geckos, you may want a third female also. You will have to watch them as the dominant one may not be very obvious, and won't necessarily be the male.

Be sure to quarantine any new leopard geckos for at LEAST 60 days even if you buy from someone with a great reputation.

Good luck to you!
