Should I be using a vitamin along with the calcium?

Poohbear03031 Nov 19, 2003 11:11 PM

I've seen posts talking about vitamins, and i don't know if I should be using them. If so could I get some suggestions on what brands please? Thanks.

I'd say Rep-Cal's Vitamin D3/Calcium mixed with Rep-Cals Herpetitive would be a good way to properly use the vitamins along with each dusting

Hey,
I've read and studied that calcium and vitamins should not be mixed together when supplementing. If they are, the calcium and/or vitamins could be absorbed less due to competition from the other supplement. Also, supplementing a vitamin supplement everyday can cause vitamin overdose. I believe once a week is sufficient. I dust my gecko's food 6 days a week with calcium and once a week with vitamin supplement. I also provide a small dish of calcium in her tank at all times.

i read that if you mix vitamins and minerals, they degrade each other and can be absorbed less. i received that information from Miner-All's company website when i was trying to decide how to go about providing different supplements to my leo. and, to my understanding, the vitamin overdose refers to D3 which is found in the rep-cal calcium w/ D3 (which is what i use). but once i run out, i'm switching to reptocal or jurassical and am using the other vitamins separately. but then again, this is my understanding - so if i'm wrong, someone please reply and let us know take care~

I would not use calcium with D3 on a daily basis. I use Herptivite once a week, calcium with D3 once every 2 weeks, calcium without calcium twice a week and Miner-all once every 2 weeks. I think if you dust with each feeding it's too much but that also depends on how often you are feeding the leos too.

Basically, the more protein and sodium that you're using for gutload, the more calcium you're going to have to provide for your leo. I also think leos more likely to run into problems of not having enough calcium than having too much, especially with gravid and younger leos.

If anybody can tell me of a case where a leo ever had too much calcium, please let me know.
