I NEED HELP!

mhd1104 Nov 20, 2003 06:25 AM

I purchased a map turle approx. 1 month ago. He seems to rarely bask, but that isn't the problem. His shell is starting to get red patches all over it. I put in a Turtle Conditioner that was supposed to kill the bacteria, but it didn't help. I have been skimpy on doing water changes, so could the buildup of bad stuff be the cause of this? Also, could his lack of basking be the problem? Please help me!

Yes and yes... I'd start cleaning your tank out and go to a vet for some medicine.

Peter: It's OK, I'll handle it. I read a book about something like this.
Brian: Are you sure it was a book? Are you sure it wasn't NOTHING?

Water Changes could definetly be your problem! I'm not sure what kind of map turtle you have, but I know Mississppi's are very sensitve to water quality. Also, if it is a small hatchling...keep the water shallow. Only about two inches. It should definetly be basking... it needs to dry it's shell out. Make sure the basking area is accessible. Too much time in polluted water is a very bad thing for a sensitve map.

Hope this helps!
