Couple of heating/lighting questions...

Poohbear03031 Nov 20, 2003 07:29 AM

Hi. I was jsut wondering if I get either a T-Rex Active UV heat, or a ZooMed Powersun UV bulb, do I need another light source? Also what night light should I use and how strong does it need to be? Would a UTH be okay to use instead? Thanks in advance for any help.

Depending on the brightness of your tank with just the one light will tell whether you need another light source or not. The good thing is ..... you can get away with a regular flourescent from Lowes or homedepot if already using a MVB.

No heat source is needed at night if your home stays above 65 degrees.

What size tank are you heating / lighting?

I prefer spot bulbs since they focus the heat in a smaller area and allow for a better temperature gradient. If you do go with a spot bulb, you will more than likely need a regular strip light to light the rest of the tank.

I am either going to try making a custom cage or get a 40 of 50 gallon. Thank you for your help.
