First time mates introduced

BOBAFETT May 31, 2003 10:54 PM

Well, im sort of new to breeding leopards. I put them in together today. At first they were far away, but got closer. The male was checking her out and following her. The male was rattling his tail alot for the first few encounters. He nipped her twice, but not hard. Then he was standing as high as possible. Now they are sleeping in the same hide and are fine with each other. Does this seem like a typical "first date?" The male is about 3-4, and the female is between 3-4. They are both very healthy and pretty big.

Well, i dont know about first date. They usually will go at it right there in front of you with no hesitation. He may be courting her. If you leave them together they should breed eventually.

When I introduced my mating pair the male rattled his tail and the female did not do it back. Then he followed that by moving in for the kill he would nipple her tail and then grab her neck and the mating would start.
