Nile Moniter escaped !!!!!!!!!!!

billysflower Nov 20, 2003 11:54 AM

I was recently watching a nile moniter for an associate. he brought it over in an inadequate cage but assured me it would not be able to get out but as i thought he was wrong well it got out was out for four days and now i have caught it again and put him in one of my own secure cages. the question i have is he said he had a nile moniter escape before and it was out for 3 days and a couple days later it died well i dont want this one to die now that it is back any suggestions???? I feed him one fuzzy dusted with calcium powder as his vet told him to do but i dont want to feed him to much any suggestions ??? thanks

Just make sure it's hydrated, my Timor was out for 5 days and he was fine... that guy's other Nile probably hurt itself somehow. So I wouldn't worry unless it's showing signs of being sick.

Peter: It's OK, I'll handle it. I read a book about something like this.
Brian: Are you sure it was a book? Are you sure it wasn't NOTHING?

i doubt your friend's nile died because of it escaping. i'm a bit ashamed to admit i had a baby nile escaped for 3 WEEKS! he was skinny and dirty but alive and relatively healthy, and went on to grow up big and strong... maybe too big and too srong for me at the time lol.
anyway definitly keep feeding him as normal, provide a good environment (heat, water to soak, hiding spots) and he should be fine. in my experience, the better a home you provide, the less effort they will spend trying to get out of it
