Hi, a friend of mine lost interest in this little guy and left for college. My friend gave him to me and I'm wondering what kind of leo he is. He's MUCH brighter in person, I have a crappy digital camera. He's about 4-5in long. Thanks! Diana

hi, i saw your post the other day...
but since you say he's much brighter in person, it's hard to label him - is that yellow? are the bands darker yellow/gray? he seems to be a carrot tail, but i can't tell if the black spots on the tail are on the orange or on a white spot on the orange.. hopefully someone will see this again?
i have some morph sites if you'd like 2 take a look? let me know!

Hey!
Well, he looks very young still and those bands may fade nicely. It's hard to tell from the pic, but if those bands fade he'll be a Hypo Tang. As for Carrot Tail.. hard to tell from this picture because it's blurry, as aimee said.. it's hard to see any black spots of any white on orange. Take Care!

Looks like a super-hypo for sure (less than 10 spots on body) and maybe super-hypo tangerine if the body color is orange rather than deep yellow. Very pretty gecko!
Regrown tails can come back with unusual coloring so I won't say carrot tail (aside from the arguement about "description vs. Hines genetics"
but I've never seen one come back pure orange before! Truly, that is a beautiful gecko.
Looks to be healthy, too, as far as I can say from a single picture. Is it eating well? Are feces normal? (moist, formed, with white urates)?
Anyway, congratulations on a beautiful leopard gecko!

Hey!
You said that super hypo tangs have less then 10 spots on the "body" right? If this is true then I believe my hypo tang would be considered a super hypo tang!
I'll post a pic of her so you can check her out! (She's 7 months old right now)
I need a better body shot. =

Hi, that's my understanding from reading this forum. I haven't seen a definition anywhere else. She looks like a pretty girl! Frankly, I wouldn't be surprised if the definition changes pretty soon since there are a lot more leos being bred with very few spots. Unlike "jungle", I don't think any one breeder defined the term. If I'm wrong will someone please correct me and show me their source? I'd appreciate it!

Hmmm... well I've heard the '10 or less spots' one before too. But lately I've heard more and more people reffering to a 5 or less rule for super hypos.Simply because standards are being raised every year.
10 spots or 5 spots...they're all pretty geckos tho XD
I do agree on the regen tail. You can't count it as a carrot because I've seen a tang grow a tail back like that when it wasn't a carrot before.
Alrighty! I was kind of not sure if the regenerated tail counted or not, lol, but oh well.
I just counted Ron's spots too.. including her neck, she has 4 spots total and they are very faded, maybe they'll fade with age?.
Thanks! See ya!

Heads spots don't count. Ifthere are no head spots the it is baldy along w/everything else.

I just recenty saw some well known breeders marketing leos with two spots as super hypos. And another marketing leos with no spots as just 'hypo tangerines'
The standards are raising...but a true definition of this hasn't been set in stone through all breeders. You'll still see conflicting descriptions.
I always thought it was 3 spots or less...
