I just read about hide boxes for Uros. Does anybody keep damp spragnum(spelling) moss in their hide boxes?

Barbara
No that would be a bad idea i would think. This is due to the probability of tail rot. The moisture would cause the tail rot, not a great thing but not a deadly thing either. I would just stick to the hide itself with nothing in it or just the substrate you use. For lay boxes i know you can use dirt, that is what i am doing for my female when she will hopefully lay.
Good luck!

Thank you Lauren. I am just a little worried about Orion shedding. I guess because I can't help him and I am impatient.

The humidity is likely a little bit higher in any enclosed are already, so you don't need to add any dampness. Arthur has been in shed for the last two and a half months. She finally finished shedding her face and her feet. I just give her a 10 minute warm soak once a week (thorough blow dry after) to help out. Patience is a necessity!

Hi Torey.
I think I'll try the soaking but only once a week, like you said, and a blow dry.
Thank you,
Barbara
sphagnum moss is great. i use it for all of my nesting boxes and for my pac mans, because they can either hold a lost of moisture, like mud, or just a little. good stuff.

I forgot about the possibilty of tail rot if I put damp moss in the hide. I also didn't think that there might be a little dampness naturally in the hide.
Than you everyone,
Barbara
