Cheap Cage?

AzLunchbox Nov 20, 2003 01:00 PM

Hey everyone...i was just wondering what the cheapest way to go about getting a cage that's about a 60 gallon size would be?

I don't make a ton of money so i can't really afford to buy tons of cages.....but i gotta house the little guys somehow lol.

So what are some of your ideas?
And no i don't mean the places where you can but 6 cages for less then a thousand dollars er anything like that......like i said...i don't make alot of money.....i need something closer to the $100 range.

thanks for the help!

have you tried calling around at fish stores.they might have cracked tanks or just plain dirty tanks that they will sell to you for a very reasonable proce. a few months back i got two dirty ten gallons and a dirty 55 gallon for 20 bucks.. call around you might get lucky...

or depending on where you live you could call twin oaks they sell tanks a dollar a gallon. you might be able to pick it up or get it at a show

or if you didn't mind going a lil smaller you can get a 40 breeder for a lil under 100 bucks.

or if you have a lil skill you could make one for under 100 bucks

hope that gives you some ideas

I have plans on my site for building a 4x2x2 cage for $50 each... Or you could buy the large rubbermaid tubs from walmart!

Another place to try is eBay. A few days ago, I searched and found a lot of tanks in affordable price ranges. The trick is finding one in your area, since most of them are pick-up only.

Try checking your local newspapers, too.

The best place I know of is a local herp show. Typically you can find great new or used terrariums for $1 a gallon which is a great price. The only problem is getting your new 75 gallon tank home...

I bought my 65g long cage at www.glasscages.com. It is an acrylic tank, and I had to put it together myself (very easy, I am NOT mechanically inclined, and it took me 5 minutes). Anyways, including the screen top and shipping to my location, it cost me $101.00. All you have to do is slide the pieces in, they already have some adhesive so you can stick them in, put the corners and the top frame on, and you are all set. Very easy!

Twin Oaks is also www.glasscages.com. It is a dollar a gallon, very good deal, and like I said, the acrylic terrariums are shippable at a very affordable rate. I think they are located in Tennessee, I live in CT, and shipping was like 14 bucks. Really, take a look at their site. They are friendly too and very quick, they shipped mine the next day. Let us know how you do!
