female beating up male?

tnj318 Nov 20, 2003 01:06 PM

I have a male and female water dragon. The male was given to me and is injured and can't climb trees or anything. My female over the past week has started chasing him around the bottom of the cage and attacking him. She's never been aggressive with him before and it just started suddenly. She's also been eating more than normal. I just wondered if anyone had a clue what could be going on.

I would never put an injured animal with other animals. You should seperate them immediately. Injured reptiles are already under enough stress, they don't need others around them. Especially basilisks...they can get stressed very easily. If he is full grown I would put him in a 50-75 gal...to prevent him from hurting himself further. You should give him enough time to heal before reintroducing him to the female.
