My New Mali

kittypoop7 Nov 20, 2003 01:22 PM

Hi there, I got a baby Mali about a month ago and he seems to sleep a lot. I don't know if this is normal, which is why I am posting this message. He seemed to run around a little more in the beginning than he does now. He's got a 20 L tank with millet as substrate. Lighting is one of those active UV bulbs, 100 watt floodlight from T Rex. Plenty of hiding spots are in his tank. He loves to eat his peas, and also gets kale, collard and mustard greens and I just started giving him yellow squash which he likes. I think he's fine but I just want to make sure. From what I've heard Malis are supposed to be running around like idiots and he doesn't really do that. Please let me know your thoughts.

Thanks,
Laura

Hi,
Winter is starting, and the uros can sense it...well at least mine can. My room gets a bit cooler in the winter, but the temps stay the same in my Malis' cage, but last winter, and now this one, my Mali has slowed down, slept alot more, and eaten less. So, it's his natural brumation. The female, which I just recently got for him, is still up and moving, but either she's calmed down, or she's starting brumation a bit too, I'm not sure. Anyways, it's normal for a uro to get slower around winter time, so you have nothing to worry about

Thanks for responding... I feel better now. I came home yesterday to find that he spent all day shedding, I wonder if that has something to do with it too. It has been a little colder in here lately due to the weather finally getting cooler here in Phoenix so I bet that is what's going on.

Thanks!
Laura
